For the Ballad of the White Horse Interpretive Essay, how should I organize the paper if I am focusing on the the differences between the pagan and Christian attitudes in the harp songs? (Topic 2)
There are several ways to organize the paper. However, we recommend organizing your body paragraphs so that each body paragraph focuses on one pagan attitude and one Christian attitude. In this way, you immediately show the contrast between the two attitudes in the same body paragraph:
Body paragraph 1: self-centered pleasure and joy
Body paragraph 2: sadness and hope
Body paragraph 3: hatred of creation and love of creation
Body paragraph 4: uncertainty about the meaning of life and certainty about the meaning of life
Note: having more than three body paragraphs is entirely fine in an interpretive essay as stated in the interpretive essay handbook.
