Grades K-8: Getting Started Mid-Year – Where to Begin

Curricula and grade level objectives vary somewhat from school to school. When switching into Seton
mid-year, we always recommend doing some review of the previous Quarters' material and concepts
before diving into the daily work for the Third and Fourth Quarters. You may spend as much or as little
time on this review of previous concepts as you think necessary for your student to be well-prepared.

To facilitate this review you may want to:
  1. Look at the table of contents in the workbook. If you think your student may need
review in any of the areas listed, use the corresponding workbook pages as a
    review.
  2. Review the Lesson Plans for previous Quarters and see what assignments/skills
    were focused on.
Once your student has mastered/feels confident in the 1st & 2nd Quarter material you can begin your
daily work at the beginning of the 3rd Quarter, and just follow the Lesson Plans. They will alert you
when things need to be turned in.

For half-year enrollments, Seton offers Grading Services, credit, and record-keeping for 2 Quarters.
Because of this, we are only able to grade and award credit for the 3rd & 4th Quarters. (You could
choose the first two Quarters instead, but since it is mid-year, most families choose to have those
services for 3rd & 4th Quarters.) The one exception to this is the Reading course. Please see below for
more information.

*A special note on Reading/book reports for 4th-8th grade: When beginning mid-year in our
4th-8th grade Reading courses, we highly recommend having your student complete the
1st & 2nd Quarter book reports as opposed to the 3rd & 4th Quarter reports. This is because
additional help and guidance is provided for the 1st and 2nd Quarter Reports. The first two reports
will be on a classic novel. Extensive guidance and help are given for the first two reports in the Book
Report Handbook. Please just make a note at the top of the report, such as "Half-year enrollment,
submitting this report for 4th Quarter."
