The Microsoft 365 license that Seton provides only allows web-based use of the Microsoft Office applications (i.e., only can use via a web browser). You cannot download the full, local application of Microsoft Office with this Seton-provided license.
However, you can still provide footnote and endnote citations with this web-based version of Word. To insert a footnote, click "References:"
It will pop up the footnote section right afterwards, and you can then enter the source information there:
However, you will notice, unlike the regular Word application, it will not show the footnote at the end of the page while you are editing the document. To see the footnote, you need to switch the view to "Reading View:"
This will then display the document with the footnotes at the bottom. When you want to return to editing the document Reading View, click "Edit Document" and "Edit:"
You can follow the same outlined above to insert additional footnotes.
You can also use endnotes by clicking "Insert Endnote" under "References:"
However, keep in mind that you cannot change the format of the superscript in the web-based Word. If your superscript is shown in lowercase Roman numerals (as shown in the screenshot below), you cannot change it to Arabic numerals. If your student wants to use endnotes for their research essay or research report, let us know (
hsenglish@setonhome.org), and we will create a grading flag notifying the graders to accept the lower-case Roman numerals for endnote superscripts.
To see where the endnotes page begins, again look via Reading View outlined earlier and give an "Endnotes" centered header.
